stacks of strings

My friend Barbara has me thinking about my strings blocks. I made these along time ago but still haven't done anything with them. I find the phone book pages that I used for the foundation doesn't tear off as easy as I had hoped.

  1. I’m so glad you are thinking of these, Jen! They are unique, each and every one. I used fabric for a foundation on mine, and I enjoy the extra weight and durability it provides. So there’s no tearing going on here. The only thing I can think of trying to make yours more tear able is water. A good hot soak might help, then tear the paper while still wet. These are fun, aren’t they?!

  2. I'm with Barbara! I LOVE your blocks! The only thing I can think of to make the paper easier to tear off is to shorten the stitch so the "holes" are closer together so that they "perforate" the paper better. It won't help with the ones that you have already made - but it might help with future ones - ;))

  3. Wonder what you'll make with them.

  4. Rather than soaking - you may take a paintbrush (or something similar) and wet just the seamlines to help the paper tear more easily.
(snicker) It is a shame you didn't have any green fabrics to use in those blocks.
